Who you are

Do you dream about energy modeling and how to radically impact the built environment? Are you looking for ways to grow your knowledge of building systems, energy modeling software, and simulation capabilities? Are you tired of using energy modeling to evaluate minimum code compliance and LEED certification? Or hearing the term “value engineering”? Do you ever wish you could make energy models and compare how operational building performs with your estimates?

If so, you are looking in the right place.

We are searching for a talented energy modeler who is interested in building decarbonization and advancing the use of energy simulation to inform commercial building design and efficiency codes and standards. The position requires knowledge of energy modeling software and experience with high performance integrated building design and consulting.

What you get to do

The position requires knowledge of energy modeling parametric analysis and the use of software such as EnergyPlus, ModelKit, OpenStudio, and VE-IES. Projects focus on developing energy analysis to evaluate the impact of energy efficiency strategies on commercial buildings and, consulting with research and non-profit entities, owners, and design teams about the use of energy modeling, and how energy simulation software can be used to understand working systems.

You will be a part of developing energy models informed by field monitoring of advanced building systems to inform potential pathways for enhanced building performance in California energy codes. You will work with large data sets, leveraging them to inform impactful findings in building design. You will work with leading researchers across state and federal agencies to deliver creative solutions to our utility partners and building designers and owners. Some of our past energy modeling projects have evaluated questions such as time-of-use power intensity for grid carbon impacts, comparisons of HVAC controls strategies to field data, simulation of building integrated electrochromic glass, impacts of building use and age on operational energy, and many others.
